Hrm, so my guess is a 1.6 SOHC has a very poor r/s if a 1.6 DOHC has 6 more mm on the bore.

R/S ratio on a Stock D16 is 1.52:1
Stroke is 3.54"
Rod is 5.39"

I have a project on my hands don't I All you DOHC suckers better watch out.....it will be ready in about 6 years!!!!

D15 non vtec has 1.59 RS ratio
D15 VTEC has 1.63 rs ratio

Understand why I wanna build a long stroke 1.5L VTEC (basically VTi)?

yup. use the D15B7 block, its better then the D16Z6, and add a D16Z6 head on the D15 block and you can build a really strong motor.

What is a mini me setup
I know for a fact I want to increase the deck height. So I can "stroke" then engine....purpose is a better R/S ratio. So basically I am going to have to rebuild the block anyway Want to hear the good part? D16Y5.....yup VTEC-E! I can always swap the head to a VTEC and of course I want to be the fastest HX.

Edit: BTW do any of those sites have a webpage that you know of?

DAMMIT.....okay....D16 has a 90mm stroke with like a 137mm rod.....increasing the rod lengh also increases the stroke......i just realized this.....Sigh, I need to find a way to keep stroke some what normal (close to 90 and get the damn rod lenght up).......a rod lenght of 157mm on a 90mm stroke is perfect however, it won't work with a D16 Crank. Fudge!

Why you think ENDYN went with a custom crank in his destroked 1.6L (1.55L)?

Okay.....if I increase rod lengh keeping the same crank I would need to have rods of XXX lengh to cover it basically stroking the hell out of the block.
My goal is a 100mm stroke that I will bore to 81mm. 2060cc!!!

Increasing rod length will not increase stroke. It will increase dwell time at TDC and BDC. Also it leads to less extreme rod angles in relation to the crank, which results in less sidewall loading.

I belive a d15 motor is just a d16 block containing a crank with a shorter stroke, allowing the use of longer rods.

Thnx HXMan,

I will be researching the D15 crank. But, are you saying the stroke is only effected by crank size and not rod!?!

Yes, rod length does not affect stroke length. Take a b16b(CTR)for example. It is a b18c block, with a b16 crank, and longer rods, resulting in 1.6 liters of displacement. It has a r/s ratio around 2.x I belive. Good for prolonged high rpm use and power.

Hmm, guess I might have to go with custom crank and rods.

Blocks are different. Main journals are smaller and the deck height is lower on 1.5L's.

Okay....do ya know if the valve springs are swappable? See some aftermarket valve spring for a Z6 and want to put them on the Y8.

For now I am going to stay with the stock cam.....I plan on slowly building the car......springs and retainers, valves and guides, then port and polish, then cam.
After the head work is done I will go to the bottom end which I am looking into the sleeve and bore....want 81mm.

putting springs on now will kill power.
Wait till you get the cam.
