Alternator belt broke. =(
My alternator belt broke a few days ago and I bought the belt already. Is it possible to do it yourself? I have all the tools I need. And I was wondering if I should already replace ALL the belts (timing, steering, etc.) already so that I dont have to replace them later on. I just don't want to spend extra money on labor cost if there's a possiblity for my friends and I to do it ourselves. Is there an instructional book for this? and where can i find it if there is one. Thanks for you time.

You should be able to tackle this job yourself. It is really easy, how many miles do you have on your car? As for replacing all the other belts, do the others have little hairline cracks? If so I would replace them for peace of mind. The timing belt is a little (lot) more intensive for one to do. I would suggest if you are not sure to have someone help you or pay a shop. If you timing belt is installed wrong you could damage your engine.

I have about 120,000 miles on my car. And thanks for the info. But where do I get instructions to replace the belt? I think I'll also replace the water pump belt and I'll check the Timing Belt, if that has hairline cracks, then I'll replace them. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

There is no water pump belt, this is not a V8.
As for where to get instructions on how to change the timing belt, there are a bunch of manuals you can get for our cars that will walk you step by step through the procedure. Looks for helms or Chilton manuals. I find people like the helms the best. 120,000 is right about the time for a timing belt. This is very important. Is this your first Honda? Ok Acura but you get it.

you have 3 accessory belts (alternator, powersteering, and air conditioning) then theres the timing belt. in order to replace an alternator belt, the power steering and airconditioning belts have to come off anyways. you might as well replace all 3 at the same time. these accessory belts are very easy and strait forward to replace, theres no taking anything apart. the timing belt is a little advanced and i'd suggest getting someone with experience to do this. you can find detailed instructions using a helms manual. the accessory belts are easy enough that if you simply get underneath the car and look at them, you can figure it out.
The alternator belt is pretty simple to do. Remove the PS belt, loosen the alternator with a 12mm socket, lessen the tension and then replace the belt.
As for the timing belt, it is quite a task - literally, if you have even considerable mechanical knowledge, a timing belt is a very involved task, and nearly impossible for one person to do alone (have fun with the crank bolt, hehe). I did my first one this weekend, and it took me hours and hours.
I know some people can do it with their eyes closed, but for someone who can do quite a bit (like myself), it seemed as though the timing belt was the most difficult job i've ever tackled

I've never eplaced any belts on my integra, but I've watched mechanics before to try and gain knowledge so I might tackle it myself...no way. The alt belt/ac/ps belt R/R they lifted car/dropped left suspension, and did work from underneath. Is this the way to do it??
If your're having the timing belt done, do the water pump also, since its driven by the T/B.

This is my first honda. and thanks Everyone for the help. I think I'll just replace the alternator, air conditioning, and the power steering belt. I'll just do the timing belt with my auto teacher. I'm sure he knows how to do it. Well thanks for all the help. I appreciate it all.
