Default please start, why wont you START!

this is killing me right now. i have two CRX's, both of which have decided to take a **** on me. Both of them aren’t starting. Ive recently been working on one of them, and ill tell you a little about what ive done so far.

When the car died, it died while I was driving. I was in third gear accelerating and the car just dies. I changed distributors, and the car fires right up again. Then two days later, the same thing happens. I change distributors again, but this time it doesn’t work. So I change the MAP sensor and main relay with known working ones, but still nothing.

Finally, I just installed a new fuel pump today because the old stock one was not priming. So now the fuel pump is good. Im getting spark, 35-40 psi fuel pressure, and the cam timing and dist timing is straight. also checked the ignition coil and ignitor, both of which were fine. But the damn car still wont start! I checked the resistance of the fuel injectors and the injector resistor box. Those checked out good. I did a compression test, and im getting really low/inconsistent numbers. I think I got like 75-175-50-100. but im not sure if its accurate, cuz the low #'s kept climbing slowly with each crank. but the 175 jumped up almost immediately. but even with this compression, wouldn’t the engine still start? What should my next step be? Did I miss checking anything?

Thanks for the help everyone.

Such low compression will make starting very difficult and sometimes impossible.

yes it climbs with each crank. you have to let it crank for approx. 5 seconds then at the end you get your number.

wish I could help with the not starting problem.. what exactly does it do and sound like when you try to start it?

See if you can get a hold of another ECU.

Also check your condition of your plugs, might be fouled out.

Check your compression again cause with those numbers I don't see how the car would start. Make sure your Compression guage is in good shape.

would i be able to start the car by roll starting? or do i need good compression for that too?

If your starter can't start it then you won't be able to push start it. Only thing you might accomplish here is break something else.

1. The procedure is just take all the spark plugs out,
2. Take the ECU fuse out so the car does not spit gas
3. Screw in the compression gauge,
4. Have a buddy turn the car over while someone is holding the gauge, count 1, 2, 3 ,4 ,5 (seconds). If your by yourself then just go in the car and turn it over and count 1, 2,3, 4, 5(seconds).
5. Get out of car and check the gauge, if the guage slowly goes down then your gauge has a leak. If it stays in the mark then just jock that number down onto a piece of paper and let us know.

Example: on my B16 my compression was between 190-195psi, this is low because I have 9:1 slugs.
I am not sure what the correct psi your cylinders are suppose to have but just post your results and someone will let you know if its good or bad.

if u get low numbers again, drop a teaspoon of oil down each plug hole and re-test.

does anyone know what the compression numbers are supposed to be for a decent condition d16a6? also, another question. jus let it crank 5 seconds, and take that number? jus crank it once i mean?
