Default Power related problems ?

ok .. Its a 90 integ and the b18a was pulled out and replace with a b18b however the b was blown so the a goes back in. the only things on the harness that changed were the 02 was extended and the plug on the back of intake manifold was extended.

The battery is relocated to the back but has been for awhile now

There is a brand new battery, brand new starter and 2 month old alternator.

now the car wont even turn over with just the one groud on the valve cover. I have to get another groud wire and hold it to the motor or the starter and the other side to the chassis and then it will start however during crank the ground wire sparks and begins to smoke.

I am throwing no codes and i ran a new 4 gauge to the battery just to make sure it wasent grounding out.

Also if it helps I dont seem to be getting any votage at the trigger on the starter when im not grounding it.

This car is driving me nuts !!!!! any suggestions would help. thanks .

Where is that on a '90? At the transmission mount? Tighten it down properly so it won't spark - that's only 'cause you're just holding it against the engine.

this is only the main ground on the valve cover and on the thermostat housing. no ground on the tranny mount. So you think If i just run the ground wire it will be ok? why would it smoke and spark because im holding it?

It sparks & smokes because you aren't holding it as tight as a bolted connection. And maybe you aren't using a big enough wire?

Where's the (-) post of the battery connected? I'm guessing to the car's sheet metal somewhere near the battery in back. There needs to be a similarly big connection from the engine/transmission ground, to a good chassis ground.

I don't have a '90, but on my cars, the ground wire on the valve cover isn't the 'main' engine ground. It's not big enough by itself for the starter current. There's one near or built into one of the engine mounts.
