Default DIY crank/rod/main bearings?

I plan to put in some p30 pistons in my gsr on my stock rods before this summer is over, and i hear a lot of people say to replace the bearings while you've got the rods/pistons out, but which bearings should i replace? crank? rod? main bearings? all of them? i heard OEM is fine to stick with, anyone know how much any of these bearings cost? or where i could get a good deal? thanks

Contact Camp1320.com, Kteller.com or Earl for ACL's or Bert-O for OE units.

That would be a good start. Also make sure you have a copy of the Helms manual. The Helms manual sounds over stressed here but can't over stress have the proper info, right?

what if im NOT taking the crank off, which i dont plan to, then could i get by with just replacing the rod bearings and the thrust bearing? any ballpark figures of how much oem rod bearings and oem thrust bearing would run? also, would upgraded rod bolts and head studs be necessary or a good idea for a motor with 11.6:1 cr?

I would just replace the rod bearings. Chaning the crank bearings without taking the crank out is a bit of a chore.

Why do you want to replace thrust bearings? You will need to pull the the #4 main at a minimum to replace them.

ohh, i thought that when i pull the rods and pistons out, i could obviously replace the rod bearings, and i thought the thrust bearings were easily accessable afterthe rods were out, so i figured i could replace them.

A little bit off the topic here, but since im talking about taking the rods out to replace the oem pistons with p30 pistons on my stock gsr rods, since i intend to use my stock rods, does anyone know if using aftermarket rod bolts would be a good idea? i figure thet engine will be around 200whp after this, is that enough to need a little extra support for the oem rods by using aftermarket rod bolts?

does anybody have a link to a writeup on how to replace the rod bearings? i've heard some things of special glue type stuff for the back of the bearings and some other specific steps. i dont believe its just a pop in pop out kinda thing.

It is sorta hard to hone the cylinders for new pistons and rings with the crank in, and clean all iron grit out. But that info might be in a Helms.
