if i was looking for a head how much??
how much would i be looking to spend? its a 95 accord coupe 4cy non vtec 5 speed.
i don't know what code everyone uses to classify it.. i know toyota camry motors were 3sfe from 87-91 but i am unfamiliar with honda products.
basically one of the header studs broke off and i want to see the other cost instead of having a new stud installed.
so how much would i pay for a good used or rebuild head??
i found one on ebay for 375 reman.

Why would you get a whole new head to fix a $5 problem? You need to remove the broken stud and reinstall the new one. To remove the broken stud, you'll need to remove your alternator (since your right-most stud is broken) and drill into it until the piece can be removed. Once that's done, all you do is screw in the new stud. Easy fix.
On my head the same stud is broken, and its the only one that was. However, my car isnt any louder, and it doesnt leak at all. I know I should remove it, I'm just too lazy
. Are you sure the other nuts are tightened down enough?

First off left hand thread drill bits are your friend, they'll get it out for you most of the time. Second why in god's name would you replace the head due to a broken exhaust stud? Exhaust studs break, that's the name of the game. They heat up and cool down thousands of times.
Drill perfectly down the center and use an easy out to unscrew it. Also if you can't find a left handed thread drill bit then use a dremel tool with the RPM's turned up. Using a normal bit can cause the stud to tighten itself in the hole. Make sure to use the properly fitted drill bit for your easy out. If needed bore it out and retap, or use a helecoil (sp?) if all else fails. Whatever you do don't replace the head!!!

dunno if this was for me but
chill man, it was a question, no need to jump all over it.
i was weighing the options in getting a better head for a little more performance instead of installing a new stud.

If your thinking of removing the head and replacing it with a new one just remove the head and take it to a machine shop. They can either remove it, drill it out and retap it, drill it out and put a helicoil in it, or they can drill it out and tap it with a bigger size and the drill and tap the plug. Either of these ways are going to be cheaper than replacing the head. Even if you find a head locally it will still be cheaper to take it off and take it to a machine shop and see what they think is the best method of removal. If they say they can't or seem sqirmish, take it somewhere else. I work at a machine shop and the guys out the shop are good at what they do. We don't usually do things like this because our machine are tied up doing jobs but sometimes when I need soemthing fixed or a parts store down the street has a customer that needs something done they will usually do it. I bought a civic and did a brake job just to find out the caliper bolt was missing and broken off in the bracket. I took it to work and he drilled and retapped it in less then 5 min. Yours would take a little more time but it's doable. Heck, take it to a shop while it's still on there and see what they say, then remove it and bring to them. Just don't go and waste money on a head that you don't need.
