Default tranny: is this normal??

Let me paint a picture....

Driving on the hwy, doing 100km/h (60mph). I need to pass some1, If I press in the clutch and go to put the car in 3rd gear it wont go, no grinds, just like it's locked out. If I tap the gas to rev it to about 3k it will slide right in, no grinds still, and is fully engaged.

is that normal??

No, I don't think that its normal. Sometimes you cant the car into a certian gear sometimes. The tranny just doesnt let you. My LS tranny does somewhat of the same thing going from 3rd back down to 2nd or 1st. Other then that the tranny acts normal and shifts fine. Have you changed the tranny fluid lately and seen if there are any metal shavings in it? hth
