Default Boost H22 stock internals

Hello.

I want to be able to run 12+ psi on an H22 engine, but on stock internals.

Question: Is there any way to strengthen this engine in any way (without resleeving)? I'm not sure if a blockguard or new pistons would help, but what would be the cheapest way to "get away with" a few extra pounds of boost, reliably?

I know the H-series has problems handling boost. From searching, I've discovered that the weakness can be attributed to the ringlands. I've also realized that the max recommended daily-boost level is around 7-8psi, but some people successfully run their engines above 10psi.

Goals: 300-350whp daily driven, and capability for 350+ for drag (if possible)

Thanks for any advice/tips here.

Edit: Damnit, forgot about H22's FRM sleeves...compatibile pistons may be harder to find...

Still - any help is appreciated, I'm not sure exactly WHAT would help the situation.

sure u can probably get that, but it might blow. especially tryin to get that 350 on a stock motor. why not just build it instead of tryin to boost as much as u can on stock motor and prayin that it dont blow? what fuel management are u planing on running? thicker headgasket?

Thanks for the reply!

I don't really feel like spending on a full re-sleeve and build-up. But I figure that if it blows, I'll just do it anyway. I'm not low on funds or anything; I'd just prefer a budget setup.

I was thinking about going with Uberdata or Hondata for tuning. (again, budget...so maybe Uberdata) I realize that much of boost-handling will involve tuning.

As for the headgasket - I wasn't planning on lowering compression, so if anything - just a stock-sized one - perhaps some ARP or AEBS head studs.

I'd be happy even with 10-11 psi daily and just 320+whp... I've experienced about 250 fwd, so I want something that will really struggle for traction (I'll consider suspension / chassis rigidity / bushings / tires / LSD... but still - best-value parts)

Any further thoughts?

Edit: Assume that I've found compatible forged pistons - solution?

No one can tell me if anything will at least help in any way?

I've obviously searched - so I know it's not that... Does no one know?

I'd figure new pistons (if possible) would solve the ringland issue?

Thanks for any insight on this - I'll have to call someone up if no one answers...

to solve the ringlands problem either dont boost at all or drop in forged pistons and sleeve it

What is the breaking point of a stock h22 in terms of HP not psi?

Forged Pistons AND Re-Sleeve = solved

What about Forged Pistons compatible with stock FRM sleeves = Solved? or no

This is where the confusion lies...

Thanks, though.

Edit: And I'd estimate that the breaking point would be around 330-350whp - There was a guy who blew a rod at 379whp, but his ringlands were fine. He was fine up to that power level.

to my knowledge there isnt' any forged pistons that will work with stock sleeves.

I don't know to much about H22 to motors besides that they are not good under boost. My friend has a H22 motor in a EG hatch it was boosting three pounds. It had a direct built on kit (Max Rev). It was on 3psi and was dyno tuned on 3psi with a V-AFC by SFP. When he took the motor apart to build the buttom end. All of his cylinder walls had hair line cracks. Now, he has a block that is bored out, sleeved, pistions, rods and cometic headgasket. Tuned with Hondata and a bone stock head. His H-T name is H22hatchy if you want more information on the brands he used for pistions/rods/sleeves and how much power he is making now.

http://www.highaltitudeimports....html

According to that (Bottom of page, last 3 posts) - Wiseco makes FRM compatible forged pistons.

Edit: http://www.wiseco.com/PDFcatalogs/SC04-f.pdf --- stock bore. I wonder if those will damage the FRM sleeves...

And those hair-line cracks worry me...hmm - I may end up just resleeving anyway though...need to explore options

Boosting 7psi not daily though. Seems ok. New built block already in my garage ready in case of the inevitable...
