Is there any way you can identify which year of the d16a6 engine is?

I bought one and was wondering if its an 88 or the 89-91. Im assuming the only way I can figure it out is counting the spline on the transmission? But I'm not sure.
Please help

 

as for the block i dunno, but the head had the year it was produced on it

 

Where can I find the year for the head?

 

on the exhaust side, you will see 3 circles with numbers, i believe the first one on the left is the year of the head

It'll look kinda like 8l9 or 9l0 in a circle
but this alone doesn't tell you the exact yr
an engine stamped 8l8 could in fact be an engine made for an 89 model
We all know the 21 splined transmissions/clutches go with 1988
the 1989 upgraded to the common 20 spline, but has a 200mm clutch surface diameter
90^ all went with 20 spline with larger 212mm clutch surface diameter

If this can't be done, you can always check the VIN if it's the original engine

Alright thanks alot. I appreciate it Umm im guessing the person I bought it from doesn't have the VIN number of the car it came out of.

 

If its 89 or 90 then it came in a 90 or 91 car.
