Timing Question on 1992 Accord
While changing the timing belt on my 1992 Accord, we removed the balancer belt but not the timing belt yet. We were looking for the water pump, so we could replace it with the new one, but accidently removed the rear balancer shaft belt sprocket right below the water pump. I understand that before replacing the belts, we will turn the cam gear and crank pulley to TDC, line up the mark on the front balancer belt sprocket to the mark on the block, and line up the rear balancer shaft belt sprocket to the mark on the block, but now that we accidently removed the rear balancer sprocket, we can't just line up the sprocket like we normally would because the sprocket has been removed and turned countless times, so putting it back on and lining up the dot on the sprocket with the mark on the block would mean absolutely nothing. Is there a way to turn the rear balancer shaft and lock it in its proper timed position so that we can put the sprocket back on and replace the belts? I don't know what would happen if the rear balancer shaft was not timed with the rest of the parts. If anyone could help me here, it would be GREATLY appreciated.
There should be a bolt on the back of the engine block, take that bolt out and the balancer shaft should be able to be accessed through there. Take something long and thin, that is sturdy enough to hold the balancer shaft in place. While keeping pressure on the object, pushing towards the balancer shaft, rotate the shaft until the object locks into place, and kep it there until you put the balancer belt back on.
