Does any one use block gaurds????
I'm just curious......Do any of you guys use block gaurds??? If so what kind?, And how were you're results with them....... I'm only asking because I'm in the process of doing a complete tear down and rebuild of my car (everything). I finished the suspension and now im concentrating on block work. Iron sleeving is too expensive considering i can buy a used block for $400.00 dollars, so i think i wanna use block gaurds.... What do you guys think??
hmmm, well if your boosting and want a little bracing the STR blockguard look like it wont overheat. I had a nuformz before and everytime i was in traffic, the thermostat would rise
if I were you i would jus save the money cause blockguards arent worth it cause the sleeves can still crack.

Oh yeah!! I forgot to mention that i will be boosting.... Well how much boost do you think i can run with the block gaurds??and without the block gaurds????
hehe, the reason why people install blockguards is for either turbo or nos. As for how much you can boost, I would say you can run the same amount of boost with or without the blockguard. Honda blocks maybe cheap building a motor isnt
Well my goal is to push into low 12's with a turboed b18a and i know it is possible....I know I'm going to want to give it a lot of boost when it is on the road, not at all times but just knowing my block is capable of pushing like 20lbs...The thing is, there is not alot of machine shops in my area that are good at sleeving blocks and i know a few people who spent alot of money on getting it done and the sleeves shifted causing major damage to the whole block....They wound up spending a hell of money and a lot of time being w/o a car...
you'd want a block guard that has coolant passages so it won't overheat.. i forgot what brand it was.. try checking one of the threads on http://www.theoldone.com

i'll try to be real straight forward, blockguards dont make your sleeves stronger. They support the top but the middle is still the same and can just as easily crack. If you want to boost 20psi it would be wise to have a nicely built bottom end so you might as well sleeve your block http://www.goldeneaglemfg.com/ considered one of the best sleeves for hondas. So if your looking to make serious power i would advise you not to get cheap and use a blockguard.
