Default CV boot tear? Need something for VIR!

While replacing my brakes today I noticed a bit of grease splattered around my driver side outer CV boot. I squeezed the boot and found a small tear. Now I'm looking into a new boot, but it seems that just replacing the axle is the best choice. Should I just get a re-manufactured unit from Autozone? How do they hold up to road racing? I've also read people seem to like Raxles units.

Also, because I've never replaced an axle and I need this for VIR. Will anyone be able to help me install this down at VIR? Maybe sometime Friday afternoon? What exactly will it need? gaskets, clips, ect... Also, if someone is interested in selling me a spare b series driver side axle, It would help a lot.

Thanks, Chris

The first, and last, time I tried an AutoZone axle, it lasted one and a half days.

It might not be the answer for you but I'll interject here that I've actually had success repairing damaged boots with a bicycle tire patch. We were racing a Mazda MX6 Turbo the first year they were introduced and parts weren't yet available...

Chris,
Same thing happened to me, but my boot just slipped off !?! I bought Raxle axles. But, I am not sure you will get them before Thursday. Maybe buy the Autozone (or 2) and then when you get back, buy the Raxle axles.

Thanks guys, I'll call Raxles tomorrow and see if I can get something before Thursday. If not I'll get an Autozone axle to hopefully get me through the weekend.

I have used remanufactured driveshafts from NAPA and they work very well, but I usually will replace them at the end of a season. It's cheap insurance.

A quick tip is to take electrical zip ties, and put them between the two bellows on the boot. This will keep the boot from swelling because of the higher rotation speeds. Just make sure the you don't make them too tight (just snug) and cut the excess off without making a sharp point out of the end
