Default !!!!PLEASE HELP!!!!

How ya doin guyz?.....gotta problem i'm hoping someone can help me with. Well first of all i have a 91 accord lx. The other day i did a routine check of my fluids, etc. and i noticed i was low a little antifreeze, so i topped it off. Make a long story short, i noticed a leak when i got home from work, but i thought it was from my overflow , but with further inspection, i noticed it was coming out slowly from the rear of the engine, towards the firewall. The next couple days it ran fine, but it was still leaking mostly when i came home from work and the car was just shut off. Well about 4 days after the initial leak on the way home the car got really hot and i realized i was bone dry on coolant, it was so hot my oil was boiling. Luckily i was close to home, so i took the chance and drove it about 2 miles. I havent drove it since cuz i dont want to damage the engine(warped head etc.) . Well my question is what do u think it is? I'm thinkin freeze plug cuz everything else is fine, the only other thing i can think of is maybe my radiator cap is bad, but would that cause my freeze plug to move enough for it to leak? And is it relatively easy to fix cuz i know the plugs r cheap , but i have a feeling its gonna be a bitch to get at, and i never replaced one before. Well i would greatly appreciate any help on this subject.
THANKS

mike

coolant out of the back......leaking from the head/block maybe???......whats the condition of your radiator??.....some of my fins have busted off (no i have a few mini accordians popin out, but my core is still intact), so in the end, my radiator is still ok......pressure test?

yeah like i said i'm pretty sure its good, rad. is relatively new. I asked a mechanic and he said it sounds like a freeze plug, but said that if u fix it it most likely will happen again because something has to cause it to do that. Has anyone changed the freeze plug before and is it easily accesible? i'm sure its not the head cuz it was leaking from there, its really hard to see so i couldnt see the leak exactly but it looks like its coming from the rear of the engine near the firewall closest to the drivers seat. And if my block was cracked wouldnt i be losing oil? i mean the car starts up fine , but i still have the leak. I'm gonna chance dumping fluid into it and bringing some extra water and driving to my pops house(about 20) miles, so we can work on it, i just needed advice on replacing and and a diagnosis.

thanks again

You definately want to get the system pressure tested to make sure you solve the problem first time around.

While it could possibly be a freeze plug, I'm inclined to believe you have a leaking hose. Very common on older Accords.
Hoses are not very high on list of things people maintain on cars. There are several hoses that run along the rear of the engine, under the intake mainfold.

Forgive me if we're talking about the same thing here but there is a threaded coolant drain plug on the backside of the f-series block. Its a few inches directly to the left (when underneath looking at the block) of the oil filter. I'd be highly surprised since mine was a bitch to get out but I suppose its possible that unscrewed.

I'd say check the obvious stuff first before you get too desperate. Also make sure its not just a hose running to your heater core, those are right up against your firewall as well.

yea the coolant drain plug is there, but i'd highly doubt it's that, although your right start with the obvious. i will doulble check that and the hoses, and get it pressure tested before i go nutz.
