Default Lights are popping up on my DASH and Brack Question

I have a 2001 HONDA Accord EX V6 Sedan. First problem is the TCS, CHECK ENGINE and SRS lights are on. Does anyone know what the problem might be. Everyone at two dealerships are telling me its the alternator. 2nd The alternator is rebuilt if I buy a new one at $260.00. Can someone recommend an online shop to get this cheaper.

2nd my brakes are shot and I am sick and tire of spending $500 to replace the front and rears. Where can I buy the front and rear pads.

My cousin is a mechanic. He is going to install these for me.

Thanks for the help.........

Talking from experience, there are several items that I advise my customers to purchase OEM. Alternators and brake pads are two of them.

I have seen too many aftermarket alternators cause problems in cars eg. low voltage, charging lights that will stay on, but the most troubling problem is an alternator that charges too high. I've seen aftermarket alternators put out as much as 17 V. This much voltage could fry an ECM or one of the multiplex units.
Check the voltage at the battery with the engine idling. Should be 13.2 - 14.6. Lower or higher indicates a bad alternator.

Very few aftermarket brake pads offer the durability, fade resistance, or braking performance that OEM brake pads offer. And those that do, will probably cost just as much as Honda pads. Sure they cost more that the cheap aftermarkets($12.99 Silver Specials) , but in the long run, they are more cost efficient, and could possible save you from an accident.

I am a little confused. If I buy these parts from a Honda dealer am I safe? Also, the light on my dask are from 3 different systems. What can be the cause of this. Is it the alternator. The Honda service rep told me I will get a 3 yr/ 36,000 mile warrenty for the alternator. He told me it was a Genuine rebuilt Honda alternator.

Should I ignore the web prices and just buy it from Honda?

Thanks

That's common for a bad alternator on those. The brake light and door open indicators will usually be on too.

Yes, a bad alternator can cause those lights to come on.

After a couple of hard stops, cheap aftermarket pads heat up and the braking distance increases dramatically. OEM brake pads are much more resistant to heat-induced brake fade. So in a panic situation, those few feet less it takes to stop with OEM pads could mean the difference in avoiding an accident.

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. So yes, they would be Honda pads.

Unless you can find them online, you'll have to get them from your local Honda dealership.
