more accord hot weather starting problems!
first, this is an excellent forum.
i've had a problem w/ 92 accord starting in hot weather.
a few weeks ago i replaced the main relay.
100 degrees today!
same problems with new relay, so i've a couple questions?
- can a new relay go bad in a few weeks?
- saw another thread that it may be the ECT sensor.
where is that located? how much for the part?
thanks

I have the same problem (imagine that). I searched the archives about main relay replacement, and there was a guy that had a brand new one go bad in 8000 miles. I suppose if it is hot enough it could just keep frying them, they seem to be poorly manufactured. I am going to see if I can just solder mine, and I will drill some air holes in the plastic case.
hi i have a 94 ex and i have had the same problem and heard that i should change the main relay but i have a couple question where is it located and how much is the relay? thanks you guys rule.

are you throwing any CEL?? im also attempting to fix a problem w/ a car w/ similar issues.. there is NO CEL and it is definatly harder to start the car and drive it when it is hot and humid out.. ive already done a whole maintaince to the car, including, plugs, wires, fuel filter, cap, rotor, oil change and coolant check..
what causes a car to drive/start like crap when its hot and not throw a CEL?? thanks

If you have already replaced your main relay...I would check for spark. Then if that doesn't work test your ignition coil and go from there.
If you do have spark its fuel related.

on my 93 accord it turned out to to eb the ignitor.. AKA ICM.. or
ignition control module.. It was about $56 at Autozone and the small
store around the corner had it in stock... you need to remove the plug wires
from the distributor, and remove the cap and rotor.. removal is pretty self
explanatory... I had no manual.. you will need a small mirror to see some of the small bolts that are not in view once you get the cap and rotor off... take your time..
should be about a 2 hr job at the most.. the ignitor itself is a small box about
1" by 1 1/2" wide....

the car is getting spark.. its starts up and drives everyday but has trouble starting on some days and then there is some hesitation when you drive it once in a while as well.. once again no CEL

If you're getting spark then its fuel related.
My guess COULD be fuel pump. Or possibly bad injectors.
Do you have any deposits on your plugs?

Well the deposits could range from dark black deposits to a greyish powder. It means a lot of different things.
I doubt its your timing either but it wouldn't hurt to check, also check to see the plug wires are put back in the right firing order

I have a 93 Accord that was having the same problems. I replaced the Main Relay and so far it's worked perfectly. I live in Sacramento so it gets very hot in the summer and gets tested daily.
I talked with some auto techs that told me to make sure you buy your relay from the dealer because all the other auto stores sell refurbished parts and you can't trust the electrical parts. If you didn't buy a new one, maybe that's what happened.
