HELP! axle wont go into tranny!
ok, i'm replacing my own axle and i've got the new axle in the hole but it only goes about half ways then stops. i can't push it in farther. I think it's in the grooves because when i spin it, the other tire moves.
it looks like a corkscrew inside and i spun the axle counter clockwise and it then goes in but it doesn't go all the way!
please help asap! i need my car!

Put a thick piece of board on the end of the CV joint ( a short pice of 2X4 works great), then use a hammer to tap it in.
Do not hammer directly on the joint without putting a board in between. You'll damage the threads.

do i firstput it in, rotate it counterclockwise and then push it in...
or do i just push it in the first time?
because when i rotate the axle in the "corkscrew it'll only go in halfway...

you shouldn't have to turn the axle to get it to go in. Try dabbing a little bearing grease or even motor oil on the splines, make sure they are lined up, and then tap the end like stated above.
Ok. You are twisting it which is what is allowing you to line up the splines. After the splines are lined up and you feel the axle "lock" now lightly tap the axles in like the others have mentioned.
