I just ordered a turbonetics kit for my stock 2000 si. I was looking at the skunk2 turbo cams and was wondering if those would make a profound difference over stock cams.

I would like some ideas on what to do next. whether it be handata, cams, or what have you.

And one more thing so i don't have to post a new thread about my blown up car. I plan on running the kits stock boost for now(8psi) What should i do or buy to make sure everything runs ****. And if you see a problem with this kit please let me know so I can address it.

All I notice is that your list does not show specifics, rather generalities.

Which is it? A T3/4 or a straight T4?
What size is the intercooler?
What size is the intercooler piping?
What type of fuel management?
What size of fuel injectors?

 

tell you the truth man i am no to sure of all the details. I know it is a t3/t4 and i believe the piping is 2 1/2 inch or at least the down pipe is. Other than that i can't really say.
I know that is lame that i spent the coin without knowing the hard facts but i just went for it and now i am like, oh ****, i hope this thing works.

15116 is the kit # on turboneticsinc.com I was sold on the fact i didn't have to **** can my A/C or anything else.

It looks like this kit is only 8 PSI. You are safe then. I don't know why you need a T3/4 hybrid to make 8 PSI, but that is what they list. The intercooler is also way oversized, but it does look cool.

It looks like the system was set up to produce 20 PSI but they want you to do that at your own risk. I still would like to know what the fuel management they speak of is composed of.

 

The fuel system is basically an MF2 ERL 3D Map njector controller, and MSD Boost Timing Manager, and 2 440cc secondaary lucas injectors. I have heard good things and bad things about this system, the only real begative that i can see is the placement of the additional injectors. The arre located on the bend of the charge ipe that leads to the throttle body, facing torwards the throttle body. I imagine that fuel distribution through these additional injectors is pretty unbalanced given the placement.

Ah, now that you say it I can see the supp. injectors in the picture.

I agree, it is not the ideal place for the supp. injectors. I guess it makes the system a true bolt on but there are so many inexpensive fuel management systems out there...

lol no **** , i bet that thing was well into 3,000 dollar range , and a better , much better turbo kit could have been pieced together much cheaper.

 

Get some real fuel management if u want it to run right.

 

To anwser your question and expand more on what was mentioned about the kit being overkill... forget cams and buy hondata, tuning and run more boost. You will make far more power and set yourself up with a much more reliable civic by using more of the potential of the parts you already have. The stock head should be good to well over 400 Hp.

 

get a pair of GSR cams.. They are better for boost and will cost you around 100 bux I just put a pair in my 99 Si.. Its a good deference with N/A too.. Im just preparin a bit for boost.

 

so it sounds like Hondata is the way to go.
but when i crank up the boost to say 13-15psi I will need to do some upgrading, right?

and from what i hear rods and pistons are the first thing to go. Where should i go to get those and what else needs to be done to my engine/system. One of you said my head should be good up to 400 hp. Is that true? Is oil cooling needed to run more boost?

quick question to that gsr cams post. Can you hear a good difference going gsr (cams) on a b16 turbo and/or is it better to go with ctr cams?

 

my exaust does sound a bit deeper and I think better. From what I have been told by quite a few people is the GSR cams are the best for boost. (I don't have a turbo on my car yet im just buyin some little **** to help give a few more HP when the time comes)

ditch the fuel and timing setup and get a stand alone, and its becomes a good kit.

 

This kit is the old F-Max kit. Turbonetics bought out F-Max and left the kit alone since F-Max used mostly Turbonetics parts anyways. The ERL MF2 is only programmed up to 8psi, but You will max out the 440 injectors at around 10-12 psi. If you plan to never run more than 8psi, the kit is great. If you want to increase boost later on, make sure you get a good standalone as the kit can easily push more than 20 psi.
