Which trannies have cable speedo, and which have electronic speedo?
My CRX Si with D16 had a cable speedo.
Now trying to go B16 vetc with Y1 tranny and this thing has electronic speedo!!!!
Have I bought the wrong tranny, or are all the vtec ones electronic?
How can I convert it back to cable tranny?
Which one do you guys use for the B16 match to Si?

dont worry you do not need to run the electronic VSS unless you are running the SiR cluster that needs the electric VSS, if you are staying with the stock USDM cluster just pull the cable driven vss off ur old tranny and plug it into the y1 (it just slides in) and problem is solved
A little more understandable Info here. What u need is an Integra Ls, GS, GSR B18 tranny speedo unit which is cable activated. You can find on either EBAY or your local salvage yard.
Hope that helps as I also recieved a JDM tranny with an electric speedo control, by the way you can sell on Ebay for $50-100, will cover the cost of your replacement.

umm hey guy, why do you want him to spend money on another one when he can use his SOHC one
.....johnCRX, you dont need to buy another VSS just insert your old D series one into the new Bseries tranny, you DONT have to buy another one...

I haven't tried to see if the cable from the Si will plug in,yet...
But I sure hope it does, and what happens to the calibration of my Si cable speedo if it does, hopefully, work.
Will the speedo be accurate or are the new revolutions of the cable from the Y1 going to different to the original calibration?
Have you personally done this and found it to be Ok.
Plus, where does the computer pick up vehicle speed as the workshop manual states that one of the 4 requirements for the VTEC to switch in, is the car must be doing over 30kph?

1. your original cable si vss will work and act exactly the same. dont worry
2. ive used a si and 90-91 integra one before, same ****.
3. the vss turns the cable, which then the cluster pulses a signal to the ecu.
you need proper oil pressure, water temp, 30kph

I am so glad for someone to confirm that, as I have been very concerned.
I just studied the workshop manual and the Si and SiR both show their (cable) speedo's with a Speed Pulser which outputs 4 pulses per cable revolution. So looks like you are right that the computer can still get a signal, without needing the electronic speedo input.
So I am excited, now looks like the cable into the previously-electronic tranny will actually be able to enable the vtec switch.
Cheers, thanks a bunch.......so relieved.
