Default What is this part called and what does it do?

Sorry for the vague subject but I’ve always wondered what the black metal "box" on the back of the block does or is called. I know a vacuum line should hook up to it, right? I did a swap, d16y7 in a 95 DX and I don’t have anything connected to it. I also get an idle surge so I’m thinking it’s because of it.

Oil seperator box. It has a pcv valve on top of it that should be routed to the intake manifold.

Aha I'm missing the pcv valve, so I can’t connect the vacuum line. I bet that’s why I’m getting the idle surge. Thank you for the reply.
