shops will rape you on installs from installinga simple wing to a simple intake to a turbo...best is to get a group of buddies together and do a mod meet..get ur stuff installed for free by someone who knows how to do it while u can help out someone with something u know

no i know I install all my own **** I basically have a better shop at my house than most shops in the area have and more tools too. Thats what we do when ever me or my friends get somthing we gather at my house and drink beers and install it .

I vote for installing your own parts, or getting friends to help. It sucks when you don't have the right tools, but you learn a lot doing it yourself and the tools pretty much pay for themself. If something is really hard, or I need tools that would just be not practical to buy, then I'd be inclined to take it to a shop, but I recommend that your first option be to always DIY.

The only time I ever outsource work is if I don't have time to learn the skills to do it or can't do it b/c I don't have the tools required (e.g. machine work, gas-shielded welding, cornerweighting, etc.).

IMO: if you do it your self, its cheaper, you learn something , and you can take pride in your work. Even if its just a oil change.

I made the mistake once of having a shop install relpacement drive shafts, for the price I paid I could've had new racing shafts. Yep, I got shafted...
Since then I always do my own installs and with the help of friends.

install own parts (if possible). Some people are **** about their hobbies and want everything done meticulously (like me) Im very careful about installing and handling parts to the best of my ability. I dont quite trust others that they will do the same.

Sometimes, it's hard to trust shops. SOme mechanics will work wonders because they dig your ride, they think you're an alright person, or they know you. Some will even just cut corners and leave you with a car that needs to come back for something else, because he done fuc*ed up. Not to mention, damn parts cost enough, need to save somewhere!!!

If you can handle the job, and have the right tools, I say knock yourself out and get dirty.

I wanted to install my own exhaust, but the bolts were all frozen. So I took it to a local Midas and they knocked it out in an hour.

Best $80 I've spent.

Installing your own stuff is the way to go. I would never let some skanky speed shop touch my car. I've seen what some of the techs do to customers' cars at the dealership I worked at. You don't want to know.

Plus being a girl and being able to do your own stuff is so fun. I learn so much every time. to those girls who just sit around while their boyfriends do all the work!!

i do everything myself unless its something i cant do, like an alignment or welding....why pay someone to do something that you can do yourself, thats how i look at it......that way i know its done right, i dont trust shops, especially since im a female, they always try and rip me off!

if you know what youre doing and have the tools to do it... install it yourself.

if you dont know what youre doing and have the tools to do it... learn how to do it and install it yourself.

If youre a rich biatch, then take it to a shop. maximum rapeage on install price.

If you need tools like alignment or something, take it to a shop.

I either do it myself or I have a few friends that know most anything on what to do with cars. So, if I don't know, I watch them and do it with them. Then, I can do it myself if it comes around again. I would never pay a shop to do any work on my car. I only trust what I see with my own eyes

I'm even going through hella problems workin on my first car, and I still say do it yourself. Can't beat free labor and knowin what your doin. Friends help, but sometimes you just have to use trial and error.
