Default Do i have to go OBDI or OBDII??

I want to run a B2 block w/ A Complete Y8 top end, I mean <U>COMPLETE</U> everything, but i need to know if i have to go to an OBD system. or can i stay w/ my non OBD? I know if i stay w/ non OBD then i have to convert to MPFI. (not a prob) I know that the stock B2 dizzy will work & fit fine in the Y8 Head, no mods or anything, but thats a OBDII top end so... do i HAVE to have an OBDII ECU?

You can run any OBD you want just buy mix matching parts. I just did a OBD1 conversion in my car using this http://www.knology.net/~jediklc/obd0toobd1swap.htm and I highly reccomend it. I have absolutly no problems at all. Probally not the cheapest way to do it, but it is the most factory like way to do it that I know of. I would stay away from RPM activated switches and stuff like that.

you can do whatever you want, obd0 would be the easiest and obd1 would be the best becaseu you can run teh p28 ecu, obd2 is the WORST thing you can do though FYI

um... i didnt know it mattered, but i guess a 96-00

I would rather stay non OBD, $$ reasons but the only thing that concerns me is the ECU. Will the OG ECU be enough for the new setup? Or should I look into other non OBD ECU's like the 88-89 teg?

you need to run either a Si (pm6), ZC (PM7) or 1st gen integ (PG7) ecu. You also need a 88-91 SI/HF distro and run vtec off a button or a RPM pill or what have you. You also need to convert to MPFI cuz i think you are DX....as for everthying i stated SEARCH on HT and everything i mentioned is explained in depth ...

ok cool, hey what about an AFC, cuz i have read that the fuel curve wont change when the vtec kicks it w/o it, if i run the AFC then do i still have to change the ECU?

you can get a PW0 or a PR3 ECU, they already have vtec maps, and you can run it on a SOHC engine...just dont use its revlimiter....or you will grenade your engine running it up to 8200RPMS...

LOL.. that would be wild.

PW0 or PR3? ok & eaither one of those will conect directly to the plugs that i have now? but ill have to wire Vtec to the ECU right. (no need for AFC) right?

you can stay non-obd as if you were putting a z6 head ...

the head and intake manifold has nothing to do with obd system... meaning you can swap a z6 or y8 in your b2 and you can still stay non obd....so might as well stay non obd because you dont want to mess around with all the additional sensors and wirings w/ obd1 and not unless you got the funds to do it obd-1... and you are welcome to do it...

or obd2 (forget about this system...its really complicated and you will be throwing code after code..),

yea its okay to use your stock ECU, but be aware that you wont be using your full engine potential... here are some recommendations....

non-obd: PR4, PR3, PG7, PM6 and vtec controller
obd1: P28

um guy, these ecu's (PR3's/PW0's) will NOT run a SOHC vtec motor unless its chipped, it will NOT idle and run like DIRT if u get it to run, they have totaly diff maps that do not correspond. you can use the PR4, but NOT the PR3 or PW0 so dont waste ur time or moeny with those 2 unless you are going to run a B16...

I'm sorry man, but if you are trying to be cheap. For the price of an AFC you could convert to obd1 three or four times, and have a ECU designed for your motor. If thats what you really want to do go for it, but you are going to have to do a good bit of wiring anyway, so I say go OBD1. Don't let the link I posted intimidate you, it really isn't that hard. I don't know if you have any junkyard hook ups but I can get p28s for dirt. Trust me on this go OBD1 you will be happy if you do.

Nothing because the only other thing you need are the injectors and part of the harness which I got with the Engine. Get a P28 and and start wiring man. And oh yeah I made my own jumper harness using the directions I linked to earlier.
