What causes detonation? I'm afraid that with my new cams I might hear detonation. How do I avoid it?

u've been posting about pinging and detonation lately...
can u pull the spark plugs for us and take a picture....

 

I heard that gas with low octane will casue detonation but Im not sure.

 

isn't detionation when the tempatures in your cylinder get too hot, and your gas ignites before its supposed to? you can avoid it by using higher octaine if your not pinging real bad, i think you can also retard your ignition timming too. good luck

 

use super...or ultra sunoco gas....retard your timing.

some ways to stop detonation is keep the motor cool, By water cooler radiator thermostat. have enough spark.
