Default What's wrong w/ my tranny

Ok, it seems like each week it's getting harder and harder to shift. At this point, it is extremely hard. I drove another R around to check out the ease of shifting compared to mine and there is a BIG difference (hey TizzyXav, post on this one). You have to muscle the shift arm in order to get it in. When it finally does go in it is notchy as hell. If the car is stopped w/ the engine off, it's as smooth as warm butter. This is with the stock shift arm/***/bearings etc.

Any guesses? I'm hoping it's not the synchros, but I have a feeling that that is the problem. If it is, do you think this sort of thing would be under warranty w/ 16,000 mi on a 2000 PY R?

fast is correct. your clutch, most likely the pressure plate, is giving up.

Yeah, I would take a look at your clutch/pressure plate.

Take it to the dealer!
They said that if it wasn't under warranty, then I would have to pay for the complete tear down & rebuild of the tranny... like $600. That's why I'm reluctant to take it to the dealer.

95% Pressure Plate
Same thing happened to me.
Is it bad enough yet that the car will creep forward even with the clutch down (in gear)???

Why would that cause shifting to be really hard and stiff? I'm not disagreeing with you, just curious to how that's causing the problem mechanically.

Pressure plate take it in maybe you'll get lucky like i did when my pressure plate broke, making it almost impossible to shift into gear but not for the acura mechanics who test drove saying everthing was alright and were going to send me on my way without figuring the problem out till i almost left but couldnt shift into gear im like wtf somethings definitely wrong.

They quoted you $600 for a complete teardown and rebuild? That is an amazing price. And its from the dealer?

make sure your clutch fluid reservoir is full and bleed the system, but probably the clutch like everyone else said. if the clutch\pressure plate is bad its like trying to put it in gear without a clutch at all!

Right... so wouldn't it grind when you tried to pull it into gear? I've pulled on it real hard before and sometimes it will just refuse to go in. So I pull it back to the neutral position and try hard again and usually it works.

That was a number they threw around... nothing on paper though. And it's just to tear down the tranny and put it back together again.
