What kind if gas do you guys use for your LS?
I noticed no difference in my GSR between 87 and 92. There is really no point running high octane unless you have really high compression or FI.

I own an LS, and I just throw premium in my car, because I only give my car the best, even if it does nothing.

Yeah I use 92 as well, although it's not neccessary. I get the feeling the car runs smoother with 92. But I think it's just me.
Um 87 octane, anything else is just wasting money if you have stock compression.
Plus you cant beat 93 cents per gallon for the cheap suff!

Use the LOWEST octane gas that doesn't make your engine ping. That will yield the most power and best gas mileage.
BTW, best gas mileage I ever got in my '90 GS was 35mpg - single tank fill that went 420+ miles....
Hmmm...that's funny because when I added 1 gallon of Toulene to my tank after filling up with 91 octane, my car ran like normal for about 5 mins, and after the old gas in the fuel lines finally burned up...BOOM~! my car felt as if it was on the juice. So don't tell me high octane fuel and advanced timing doesn't make a difference.

I'm not sure if you're talking about your Type R or S4, but in both cars you've got a knock sensor. I bet what's happening is that when you're running 91 octane, your ECU is detecting a bit of ping and pulling back the timing. When you've got higher octane (toluene) in there, you have no ping and the ECU can run its full ignition advance, hence the added power. You're not using the lowest octane gas that gives you no ping...

Ok, I won't tell you that, because I agree with you!

b18a/bs dont have knock sensors, so that doesn't apply to ls owners

I second that....the lower octane rating you can run the better, performance will be less with higher octane gas. All you are doing with higher octane gas is raising the gasoline "flash point" a little higher. Use the recommended gas, which is 87-89 octane for RS/LS/GS.

DAMN!! the best i get out of city driving here is 287 a tank.... filling it 12 gallons, i get like 23.9 something MPG... but i redline 1 and 2 every time i get in the car... so i guess i get pretty good milage for my style of driving..

So what happens if I do this to a LS? Will the results be different? What if the timing on the LS is already advanced to 18degres?
If the timing on the LS is advanced to 18BTDC and isn't pinging, toluene won't help. If it is pinging, it will help.
If you regularly put toluene into the tank, by all means, advance the timing as far as you can.
the cheapest stuff i can find, 87, 86, moon shine, pond water....whatever. No, but really, 87, i have found or at least i think, i get slightly better millage with 89 but who knows. I like to try and run the good stuff like every 3rd or 4th tank. Dont know if it actually does anything but it might keep it running good.
side note: just broke the 400 mile barrier for a single tank of gas without running out!!!! Not to bad for a 7 year old car with 121K.
