Default Pics of Fiberglass Sub Box (Del Sol)

Here is my fiberglass sub box so far. It should be finished by the end of the weekend.

Making mold to connect box smoothly to center console.

Making mold of floor under rear compartment.

Sealing the console connector piece.

Test fitting sub and grill.

Carbon fiber... bitch.

Still testing.

Making sure it looks cool from the outside, heh.

RING!

Supports for RING!

I swear to god dude, it really is hot glue...

Fiberglass is not that bad. It just takes time. However I would never ever make another box like this for a del sol. It is seriously WAY to hard to fit it to the contours of the rear section. But after making a few boxes im becoming pretty confident with my FG skills so if anyone wants a custom box for their car hit me up and Ill see if I can build it for you for a small fee. Or if you just want help or ideas I would be more than willing to help out. I am in the Flint Mi area.

The supports are just temporary. they will be removed once all the glassing is done.te fiberglass will be enough to hold the weight of te sub. i know this because this is the second FG box ive made for this sub

Is this gonna be a sealed or ported box? How much airspace do you think you are gonna have when its all said and done?

it may be for while, but if you look at 99% of box's built by people that do it every day like me, we at least use 3/4 by 3/4 mdf supports to hold teh ring up.

you would have to build up the glass at least an half inch to hold that ring and sub, and that would be around 4 gallons worth of resin

not flaming bro , just trying to make your life easier, i do this for a living and thought i would lend out some know how on how i was taught ... again good work and good luck

for the most part i am eyeballing it to the correct ammount of airspace. once the glassing is done i will measure its airspace and then decide wether it needs to be ported of not. it sould be fine though.

the posta are only used to support thr ring until the fiberglass hardens. they are removed after that.

yeah. i dont know why these people are saying that i have to support the ring. ASHY-ELBOW is just trying to make himself sound smart. "...99% of box's built by people that do it every day like me..." "...you would have to build up the glass at least an half inch to hold that ring and sub, and that would be around 4 gallons worth of resin..." If thats how he was tought then that is cool but that doesnt mean it is right. like i said this is the 2nd box ive made for this exact sub. the previous was about 1/4'' thick including the resin soaked fleece used for shaping. i used this box for 6 months and it never broke, fell apart, leaked air or anything else. i can literally jump up and down on top of it and it will not break. if i wanted to leave supports in after the box was finished then yes i would use thiker supports and fiberglass them in place so they dont move, vibrate, or rattle. however, like i said they are being removed because they are uneeded. basically what im trying to say is that if i ask for help then give me advice, but dont act like im wrong or i dont know what im doing because i disagree with you and i never asked for your advice in the first place. there is way too much of that **** on forums these days. also just because someone does something everyday doesnt mean you know the best or right way to do something. i recently had a professional automechanic tell my that my friend had a bad TURBO belt on his TURBOCHARGED eagle talon. turbochargers DO NOT have a belt incase you did not know. i also was recently told that there would be no way to fit a box for a 12'' subwoofer between/behind my del sol seats. this was told to me by one of the top installers in the country who works at Dukes Car Stereo. my box fits perfectly and the seats slide all the way back and recline all the way back even w/ the speaker grill mounted.

i suppose i am trying to make myself sound smart wow you give advice and get bashed lol , if you read above i also said everyone has there own way of doing things, and good work, i simply stated that supports would be the right way to build it and you come back with " this is my second box made, i know this works" hey man like i said above not flaming , but if you worked in a shop it would not be done this way

1.for strength issues

2.for time to build the box

again like i said if you build it thick, it will hold but resin cost money, just trying to save you some , but i guess that would be a "smart thing to do"

these forums are here for people to help and give advice bro, just because the advice is not always sugar coated , doesnt mean its not right

once again nice work and good luck
