Default MOTOR MOUNT QUESTION

Is it a bad idea to run a DOHC with only 3 motor mounts?
(engine mount, tranny mount, and back bracket)
Oh and I have a six puck unsprung clutch.
And will the extra tranny mount be necessary?

The other 2 mounts are actually suspension mounts, not quite the same as the 3 mounts you currently have on your car. If it were me I would definitely get the other 2 as it helps stiffen up the motor.

I'm not sure its the safest thing to do, but if the engine doesn't seem to move alot and you don't get on it too hard it might be ok for a bit, DON"T GET ON IT, thats what the mounts are for, to take the torque.

If you do this dont think about launching it without expecting massive wheel hop and most likely contract between the engine and hood or strut bar..

The engine will move around like crazy.. you will feel it every time you start off and shift hard... Especially with that clutch..

The 2 lower mounts are the ones that really absorb the back and forth motion of the engine.. I wouldn't drive the car too much without them, believe me I've done it and its just not comfortable..

Well this is the thing, I had a DOHC installed recently into my EG6. The mechanic that did the work said nothing about these lower mounts. Now 2weeks later I was driving my car / i rev'ed out first and dumped it into 2nd and fucked up the tranny where the upper mount screws in. The bolts ripped the threads right out.

Now would this have happened if the lower mounts were put in?

those mounts only stop the motor from tilting when you launch. You might end up causing the damage to your other mounts when you launch not to mention, the massive amount of wheelhop you will get.
