Default cutting the half the head off a lug nut stud? anyone done this to replace it?

I read that you can replace lug nut studs without actually removing the hub on some civics by cutting off half the head on the stud itself to make it slip into the hub without removing it. For those who have done this before, what tool did you use?

a grinder tool air powered or electrical
looks like a big dormnel

it is easier if u use the air powered tool though
