Default could your motor burn oil even if compression numbers are accurate?

A friend of mine has an ITR swap and lately he's been burning a lil oil. He also see's some white smoke out the tail pipe when he's in vtec but nothing too major. First thing that came to mind was rings but we did a compression test and numbers were in line. 240psi across..
So why would he be burning oil and smoke out the tail pipe if numbers are good?
