Default Built engine sitting for 1 month + w/o starting... what to do ?

Hey guys... got a built dohc engine with OEM bearings that has been sitting for over a month and has not been started in that time.

The battery is still fine... but I cannot start the car, but can prolly crank it over (no ecu and can't get one yet).

Soooo.... when I do get an ecu in about a week or so... any tips on what exactly I should do to make sure everythings kosher when I actually do crank it up ?

maybe pull the valve cover off and give the cams a good coating of cam lube/engine oil/assembly lube or something like that.

Disable the fuel pump and crank the motor for 20-30 seconds to build some oil pressure.

That way there's less force on the bearings for the first few seconds before the oil gets there. Prime the oil pump & fill the oil filter so the oil gets there faster.

Exactly, and do what was said before, pour oil all over the top end, rotate once, pour more. Just be sure you dont already have 4 qts in there when you do this.

If you're worried about the cylinder walls, you could pour a little oil into the spark plug holes. I just poured a capful on first startup - fired right up. A little smoky, though.

so basically do just like when you start a fresh engine for the first time.... gotcha.

I will prolly change the oil before starting... that way I can lubricate the top end one time.

Thanks for the info.

PM to you Trent.
