keep blowing oil pumps, whats the deal??
whats up guys, my buddy has a gsr and has a problem. He's on his third oil pump and we can't figure out why. motor is well built by honda certified techs, wiseco pistons, eagle rods, valve job, hondata, etc... the works. Anyways we went to tune it this morning and blew another pump on the dyno. what could it be. some say lack of oil pressure so we used smaller turbo oil lines and blocked off his oil squirters since he has forged internals. what else could be causing this problem. it's always been new oem parts everytime and a type R pump is the same by part #. any suggestions are appreciated. thanks

was it balanced?
were the bearings plastigaged at least?
was the engine align-honed?
how high is he revving the motor?

is the oil pressure just dropping or does it have any to begin with
I'm just wondering if your bearing clearence is so off that it making you think the oil pump is going bad where are the clearences at. what kind off bearings are you using and how did you check the clearences ? post pic off them
I know it sounds wierd but it happens

plus u need to be very very quick at shutting the car off if your oil pump goes. and to be that quick 3 times is really tough. may not be the oil pump like some others said

Sounds like a bad line hone or something in the lower rotating assembly, the crank pullie could also be the suspect.

Yea but if bearing clearances are off and or the journals are out of line, it will also shred pumps, by boy lost his motor to a bad line bore, he kept eating up oil pumps.

a freind of mine had the same problem.we thought it was the blocked off oil squirters at first.we even installed a harmonic balancer.turns out he bought the crank from a guy that said it was already balanced and polished.turns out it was bent.not sure if it sat around a while or not.could have fell over or been sitting on it's side

bad balanced crank or if hes using a lightwieght or shitty crank pulley its for sure the cause of the pump failures

Re: keep blowing oil pumps, whats the deal?? (D@nnY)
Im blowing the oil pumps, yes it is my 3rd one, yes the car does have a ebay pulley on it which is real generic.. the car was recently line honed with the oversized bearings but i know its not that because it was done by one of the best around.. ill try using the stock pulley see how it does, im getting a pulley from a friend do they come balanced to that particular crankshaft or do they come balanced for every crankshaft??

SAME FN THING WOULD HAPPEN IF IT WAS A DAMN CTR CRANK PULLEY!!!!!
Put the stock one on and you will be fine.

Re: (Garage 808 Hatch)
broke 3 oil pumps in a month with an unorthodox crank pulley before i figured it out. put a stock balancer back on and no problem for over 3 years

if it has some rubber material in it, it should do the trick.....
...... if it is all metal, dont use it.....
