Default Power Stearing Leak

I have purchaced a friends 86 Si from a friend for 220.
great deal in my eyes.
everything is nice. only problem is there is no powerstearing.
due to a leak somewhere.
he tells me that if you fill it up, it will last for about a week.
which is fine to just have to fill it up all the time. but I would like to get it fixed.

I was wondering how can I do this, well first How can I find where the leak is?
And Second how can I replace it?

jack the car up, secure it. Trace all PAS piping, wipe off any fluid/residue, Refill, drive around for ten mins taking lots of turns then jack the car back up, secure it and see where the fluid is coming from, Take it from there dude.

is it really that hard to drive without power steering? i mean the car is an 86, it only weighs like 2200lbs or so... a small car like that you don't *usually* need power steering anyways...

i personally wouldn't bother fixing it... or at least try it with no powersteering for a week or two and see how you make out. depends the kind of driving you do.

You must have fluid in there to lubricate the steering rack or else it will lock up.

I would jack up the whole front end and secure it then do as said in the 1st post only have a friend keep turning the wheel and trace all your lines to find the leak!

thanks for all of the help guy.
im just hoping its not the rack itself.

and yes, it isnt *hard* to drive w/o it but its just a pain.
I will try it for a week like you said. then see how things go.
