I am ordering a full b16 swap off of hmotorsonline. I am debating what tranny to get with it tho. I know the s1 and the j1 are pretty much the same and have the shortest gearing, but i think i want to get the y1 for the little longer gears. The only reason is because I do alot of highway/interstate driving and i don't want to be revving at 5000 rpm all the time. I pretty much have 2 questions

-How much slower would my car be with the y1 (longer gears) like .1 in the 1/4?
-What will be the diff in rpm at 80 mph compared to the s1 and j1?

At 70mph I'm a bit over 4000 with my y1

you'll be fine with s1 or j1 too, i drove mine on the highway alot and nothing every happened.

 

When I had my j1 I was at like 4,200rpm at 70. It kinda sucked. You may consider a j1/s1 with a usdm s1 (gs) 5th gear. That has about the same gearing as a usdm si crx tranny.
