Default No more S2000's. It's official.

I ordered my Nurburgring S2000 Gt in April 2004 and will be getting it on 1st Sept 04 and was talking to the Honda salesman today in order to clarify that everything was running smoothly with the order. He confirmed that everything was fine and that I will have my new car in just over 5 weeks. He then went on to say that Honda have ceased production in response to more demand for high powered diesel engines.

Having not heard anything in the press, I was quite shocked. I immediately searched on the web to see if there was anyone else who had heard and I found this site which shows one of your members mentioning it.

There is no reason to doubt it cus the Honda salesman has nothing to gain by telling me this. I paid the deposit for my car over 4 months ago, so it must be totally true or possibly a publicity stunt which isn't needed.

So it looks like the end of an era as it doesn't appear that there will be a replacement. Not in the near future anyway, and when it does it will probably be a diesel powered car.

Although diesel engines do appear to be the power of the future with the balance beginning to shift in their favour, it's a strange move from a company having so much success with selling this much acclaimed car aspecially when it has only recently received a considerable facelift. Lets not forget that it has the worlds fastest mormally aspirated 2 litre engine! What a waste!!

The salesman went on to say that waiting lists for new S2000's were well into 2005 which will soon have an impact on the already strong residuals of 62%.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the masses find out about this, and whether or not Honda will change their mind. Stopping production of the NSX would have made more sense as there aren't many people who can affford one.

If anyone out there is considering getting an S2000, order one now before it's too late, cus there will not be many facelifted models produced according to Honda.

Ta,

Craig

Just because your salesman said "production has ceased", I don't think I believe it.

A lot of salesmen/woman are full of **** and constantly lie to people's faces.

The S isn't going to be around much longer...but I do forsee it sticking around till 06 possibly 07.

P.S. we have a thread started about the 2005 S2000...let's keep all comments in that thread so we don't disperse this through more threads than necessary

that post "its official" is totally wrong.

the salesman is at the bottom of the honda pole. in fact, they don't even work for honda, so they are not privvy to any, ANY, nonpublic Honda information.

also, there is no waiting list. you can buy one today for 30,995 from Ganley Honda...and they will ship to you (yer in australia though huh). bet your salesman didn't tell you that...

he probably told you that you'd have to pay $36K if you wanted one today, huh?

Someone probably confused the NSX with the S2000 and you know the rest.

the s2k's last year will probably be 06 or 07..i don't think they would give it a facelift and do changes if this was going to be the last year that would be a waste... .and the nsx isn't going to be produced anymore... from what i heard they scrapped the new nsx... but then again things change at honda on a daily basis... and they are also bringing back the crx from what i've heard/seen..

Enthusiasts are often more informed than salesman.

good points...but the nsx is here to stay, what for it'll be in (the current hsc concept may not make it to showroom floors) but honda will offer a flagship sports car

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by AUTOCARMAG.COM &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Honda may be reconsidering its plans for replacing the NSX supercar. Though it previously appeared committed to launching a production version of the HSC concept car, inviting Birmingham show-goers to approve it production, insiders have suggested that the NSX may not be replaced at all.

The HSC was the star of Honda’s UK motor show stand (right), where it was exhibited with an electronic ballot where visitors could vote either for production of the car, or for it to be 're-thought', via the touch of a button.

It would appear that the results may have been less encouraging than expected because now Honda says that another project, maybe producing a Porsche Boxster rival, could be more worthy of its investment. The company has issued a denial, saying that it ‘will ultimately offer an NSX replacement’, but appears to have cooled a little on the HSC itself, whose styling has not received universal acclaim. </TD></TR></TABLE>

Hey folks,

Don't shoot the messenger. I appreciate that you may have heard this info a thousand times before, but I was simply telling you what the man said, and it wasn't a "Scoop". It was info that was passed with good intentions, which surely is what a forum is all about.

Quote : also, there is no waiting list. you can buy one today for 30,995 from Ganley Honda...and they will ship to you (yer in australia though huh). bet your salesman didn't tell you that...

In my haste to find a forum re this particular subject, I didn't realise that it wasn't a British site so that would explain why some of you are not aware of the 5 month waiting list for the Nurgurgring GT hardtop (6 weeks for most other colours) which is quite a rare site on our roads. This is why I have been waiting since april as I mentioned on my first post.

One year old examples are still fetching around £24000 so I can't see the sense in totally fabricating this cease of production story because it's not as if the British public aren't already in love with the car. The proof being the part it played in the recent Motor show in Birmingham. Rarely does a week go by when it isn't covered by some magizine article or being placed high in a motoring survey. The main reasons for it not being a common site on British roads is the price and the fact that Honda has drip fed these cars into europe since it's launch inorder to maintain it's exclusivity. And it appears to have worked.

Imports are available at a lower cost (approx £23000) but most people seem to prefer to pay the full price for a British model (£27500) as it's RSV remains higher and resale is much easier.

Anyway, I hope the salesman was wrong cus the S2000 doesn't deserve to be axed for a while.

Time will tell!!

Ta,

Craig

Welcome to honda-tech Craig, but you must know by now that you have the obligation to interpret the information you get rather than blindly passing it along as "official" since the information wasn't released from Honda NA or Honda Japan. There was nothing official about it other than the title you gave to this thread and I had to change to "unofficial."
