Default Which ECU with b20/vtec setup?

I am really confused on which ECU I need to run with my b20vtec engine that I am in the process of building. Here is the set-up:

94 Civic EX Coupe
b20z bottom end
ARP Rod Bolts

94 GSR head
Skunk2 Intake Manifold
AEm v2 cold air intake

JDM Dc 4-1 Header
stock cat
Apex'i N1 exhaust
Apex'i VAFC II

00 b16 transmission
Exedy Ceramic Clutch
Fidanza 7.5 lb. flywheel

Should I run stock p72 or could anyone suggest anything else as far as ECU's? Thanks for any advice.

I would run a chipped p28(the one that came in that car) and a VAFC.

I would use a stock ecu with a VAFC. You don't want a chipped ecu becuase the b20 likes the timing retarded a little and most chips advance the timing.

I used a P30 ecu (Del Sol Vtec OBD2) with mine. Retarding ignition 1-2 degrees (distribitor) from stock made 3/10th in the 1/4 mile. The stock rev limit (8.2k) will help you not blow up your motor too (if using stock rods).

I've got a P73 (ITR) I'm aiming to try out, but haven't had a chance yet. I hope to do a back to back dyno compare of the two ecus but it'll be a few weeks at the earliest.

Most of the aftermarket maps that I have seen use stock p30 timing.

I would start with a chipped ecu that supports the knock sensor (p30) and scale the fuel maps up based on the change in displacement using the tools available here:

Tuning is the next step; get a wideband and do it yourself on the street and at the dragstrip, or visit a tuner who knows what they are doing and do it on the dyno.

I had originally planned to throw Hondata on her and use that, but when we took my friends' turbo Celica to the dyno yesterday, he said he wasn't that familiar with the Hondata since he didn't see it enough. He said that he see's so much Apex'i stuff that I may be better off going with it if I want him to tune it.

I think I may try a Type R ECU. Since this is going in a 94 Civic, I take it I will need a obd-2 to 0bd-1 jumper harness?

How far is your nearest hondata dealer?

Might be worth the drive...

yes you would need a harness. the harness is going to depend on what year p73 you buy. some are obd2a and some are obd2b

If you are planning on Hondata use an OBDI ecu.

If you plan to get an ITR P73 get a 99,98, or 97 unit. You don't want an OBDIIB ecu due to the imobilizer built into them.
