Default Burning Oil

This is on a 94 GS-R. I was wondering if anyone can help me locate my cars bad habit

I am burning quite a bit of oil, like 1.5-2 quarts every 3000 miles. I have done a compression test-a consistent 160 or so in each cylinder, a leak down-less than 1% in all four cylinders, and have changed out the PCV though when I finally got the thing out it seemed in proper working order.

Symptoms are:
*Copious amounts of bluish smoke bellowing out the exhaust pipe only at times with no specific pattern as far as I can tell, other times nothing but a fine mist of bluish haze only at WOT, other times nothing at all.

*When coming off the interstate after a long trip and gunning it I get a strange smell coming from the vent that smells like burning unscented candle wax. This only started happening when I switched up to the 10w30 oil that I am using right now which hasn't helped anything BTW.

*Also though it might be unrelated my gas mileage has gone down to where I am STOKED to get 28 mpg (I used to get 29-31 on a regular basis) but usually get 26-27.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

GENERALLY SPEAKING BURNING OIL UNDER ACCELERATION HAS TO DO WITH THE HEAD IE:VALVE GUIDES,SEALS ETC... WHICH USUALLY ESCAPE THE RESULTS OF A LEAK DOWN. MAKE SURE YOU TEST COMPRESSION DRY AND WET

did you redo - reroute any vaccuum lines to the head / air intake??? if not i agree with previous post - which by the way is burning my eyes - stop the caps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you both very much for the replies.

N4Y2COE-when you say to do the compression test both wet and dry do you mean to do it dry and then drop a capful of oil into each cylinder and redo it? If so that is what I did. The dry compression was the cosistent 160 in each cylinder. With the capful of oil in each cylinder it jumped up to about 180 in each cylinder after about 4 or 5 pumps, still fairly consistent, but with a little more variation than the dry test. I think with the dry there was a max of about 5 psi variation between cylinders but with the wet there was like 10 or so.

If this is not what you were talking about or if there is any direct way to test the seals, guides, etc. I would very much appreciate any help or input. Thanks in advance for any help.

you did the copmpression test as it should be done, but i have to correct myself! under acceleration smoke is the rings and under decceleration is the guides, seals etc... you can do a leak down test prefferably when warm and check for bent valves and get and idea about the seals but it really doesnt pinpoint the guides

by the way if you are burning the same amount w\10-30 as 5-30 go back to the thinner viscosity. less friction!

Yes, I am definitely going back to 5w30 next oil change.

If it was the rings and I am burning that much oil, wouldn't that have shown up on the leakdown test? Not doubting you just trying to track this problem down. Yes I am only getting the smoke while under heavy acceleration. Thanks again for any help.
