Track Racing: S2000 vs. Integra R
Hey guys! My boy and I, both skilled drivers usually run low to mid 14's in the 1/4 mile. We are gonna have some fun and take our rides out for track racing, 20 laps at firebird for the first time. So what do you think the type R or S2000 (both 2001)?
vs.
vs.
Interesting - I would say if the driver of the S2000 is good, he'll win. It seems to be harder to drive the S2000 well, as opposed to a more-forgiving FF car like the ITR.
I think the power will come into play a bit... but the driver skill is very much so a factor in a race like this.

Thinking about the issue a little further, I'm more and more convinced the S2000 would win. Here's why:
The ITR was raced against a Mustang GT in an issue of SCC. It marginally beat the GT on a custom track (pretty much tailored to the ITR) and it flat out lost on the original track. Mainly due to its power advantage, it's safe to say that a Mustang GT is faster than the ITR on the majority of road-racing tracks.
Next, the S2000 was raced against various cars (Z28, TA, Mustang Cobra) on a road-racing track (in C&D I believe). It sometimes produced faster laps, sometimes slower laps, but the point is, it produced competitive times with those afforementioned cars. So, I believe the system works like this:
S2000/Z28/Cobra > Mustang GT > ITR
Of course, logically it also makes sense as well. The S2000 has more power, better weight distribution, fatter tires, RWD, larger-displacement engine, etc.

It completely depends on the track. A tight cornering short straight away track and the ITR will bury the GT. The more long straightaways and sweeping corners in that sucker and the GT will continually catch up and bury the ITR. You guys have seen Speedvision races. ITRs win races on windy courses and M3s win on longer straighter courses. Same principal.
I don't watch speedvision much, but don't the ITR's race 328's (now 330's I guess) and the M3's are in a different class altogether?
To the Real Steve C: care to explain how the test was a fluke?

Yeah, M3s race in the GT class. The 328s (or 330s, whatever) do walk the ITRs on the straights so badly it's disgusting, though. Mostly because of rules, though.

I think the S2000 would have a slight advantage IF, I said IF he drives the car to it's full potential.....I mean, drop it @ 7Krpm-7.5rpm, walk it throught 1st then just drive, otherwise the Type-R will give you a run for your money, poss. a defeat. I had a 98 CW ITR, and surprisingly enough, I beat most S2000's that I faced from the dead start on......b/c now that I have an S2000, if you get traction too early, your S.O.L. (**** out of Luck)!!!! Just my $.02
