Default s2k vs boxster s

how do these 2 cars compare?
i know the s2k = 240hp 2liter I4 $35k 0-60 in about 5.5 and 1/4th in about 13.8
boxster s = 250 3.2liter flat 6, $45k+ 0-60 in 5.5 1/4th in about 13.9
what about handling, which car would perform better?
i saw an s2k at autox and it blew everyone away, but was probably modded too
thanks

The cars are basically identical for performance stats. The S2000 has an handling edge on the track and the Boxster S has a handling edge in AutoX. The boxster brakes seem more resistant to fade in a track environment but a $10mod to an S2000 equals the equation. Also of note, I feel the Boxster is easier to drive at the limit: the S2000 requires a little more skill to reap the rewards.

On another note: the Boxster S will benefit greatly from just an exhaust mod(10+ hp). An S2000 doesn't respond well to modifications.

Everything else is pretty much up to debate and dependent entirely on the driver. In an Autox I'd venture to guess your times are 90% dependent upon the driver.

Of course I need to mention that you could buy TWO S2000's for the price of a modestly equipped Boxster S. There is no chance in hell you will find a Boxster S for less than the invoice of 56,000. $45k wouldn't even get you a 2.7l Boxster.

badnan - BEWARE! This is one thing that i HATE about porsche. The boxsters start at 40k but with a few options u are looking at $60k+. I have seen a boxster s for $73k.

The 40k Boxster doesn't look like much.

My S2000 is better!! eheh...I'm just biased, but I have driven a regular Boxster, and to be perfectly honest, I like my S way better...

Boxster S can be purchased in S. FLorida for less than MSRP and are giving a $1,000 rebate!! My brother bot a 2001 last year for $50K net (MSRP was over $55K). My 2002 S-2000 is very competitive with a Boxster S in either competition (Auto-X or Track). Hope this helps your equation.

Steven C you are wrong. Go to the Porsche website and build a Boxster S. You can quicky get up to 73,600 without tax. Add a few interior options, triptronic, exhaust, communications package, etc. You can easily get over $73,000 msrp. You need to go back to car school.

badnan, you can easliy spend a small fortune on a Boxster if you go with a lot of options. Don't let others mislead you.

You can see a complete list of Boxster S options here. There are 104 different options listed. Granted, some of them are mutually exclusive with each other (five different road wheels, three different steering wheels), but DAMN that's a lot of options.

Well, I got a 73k price tag also...Maybe you should try again Stephen C.... who knows.... maybe you missed an option...like why buy a Boxster S when you can have an S2000...maybe I'm just biased...but I'm glad I chose an S2000...

Maybe we can just all agree that the MSRP on a 2002 Boxster S even before adding any of those 104 options is already $19,505 more than the MSRP on a 2002 S2000.

And that the performance is similar.

why buy a Boxster S when you can have an S2000...
why buy either when you could have an M Roadster?

Because the MSRP on the M Roadster is $13,775 more than the S2000.

Man, I'd never get a Porsche. Not that I can't appreciate the incredible performance from some of their machines, but man, are they costly to maintain. And I drive a tire eatin' NSX!!!

I'd much rather get the S2000. In silver w/ a Comptech exhaust. Yeah nicccceeee.

I've driven a regular Boxter (Tiptronic) and it was very nice but not very fast. Handling seemed pretty good, but driving around with it and not getting it on a track it's hard to say. I'm very eager to try out a 6-speed Boxter and a 6-speed Boxter S.

Now, having never driven an S2000 it's hard to say anything about that. But, I think that they're definately awesome... but the Boxter would be a little bit nicer of a car to own, long term (owning costs excluded)--it doesn't have the S2000's "street racer" simplicity.

And the options for the Boxter S, in fact all Porsches, are just amazing. It's something Honda could learn from them: having lots of factory options is definately nice instead of making owners rely entirely on aftermarket companies.

That said, I'd take an S2000 over a Boxter S in a second. I may love Porsches, but you get so much more for the money from the S2000! Sure to get the same performance as the Boxter you've got to rev the **** out of it, but it's such a better deal for the money! And with all the money you save you can put in a Comptech supercharger and blow a Boxter S away.

Just my $.02. If money weren't an issue, I'd take the Boxter S, if only just because I love Porsches and even that Boxter I drove was very, very nice.

According to the professional test drivers and standard testing procedures of the major car magazines, the S2000 will smoke the Boxster S almost any time.

Motor Trend 0-60, 1/4 mile
S2000 5.2, 13.8
Boxster S 5.4, 13.9

Road & Track 0-60, 1/4 mile
S2000 5.5, 14.1
Boxster S 5.6, 14.0

talk to rob- aka buzz - he has a basically stock type R with just an intake and ran a boxster S up to about 120 and was dead EVEN. They can't be that fast if an R can keep up

NSXTCJR:

While I don't want to start a debate on the validity of teseting methods/integrity, I can tell you, from personal repoire w/ an automotive journalist who has tested both cars; that the boxster S will be much more consistent in performance than the s2000, his words, not mine. He commented that yes, the s2000 may generate impressive figures 1/5 passes, but the boxster S will produce the same numbers, under the same conditions 5/5 passes. In my eyes this would lead me to view the boxster as surpassing an s2000 ; with consideration to thet fact that consistency and predictibility aid in the overall quality of the drive. To me, this points to the boxster S as being a more sorted out, and balanced vehicle; this is not to detract from the s2000; a great car my mind, akin to the NSX, but b/w the two, I may stray to the boxster S; especially if it isn't my money on the line, if I'm paying for it, I'd get the s2000 and invest in some chassis/tire tuning, as well as improving my driving.

Sorry, but consistency is a function of the driver, not the car.

You always hear excuses from people who don't like the results when the magazines run their tests...

Default My post was.

..made w/ the assumption that same day, same driver, same conditions; boxster s is the more consistent performer.

So Boxster is more consistent (which I'm not sure I buy). S2000 is still just as fast or faster.

It's probably close enough that picking a side is a losing argument though...
I would agree, and on that note, I'd take an S2000.
