how hard is it to change a differential????
Well, it involves removing and disassembling the trans, i helped during a replacement on my teg about 2 years ago and its like a whole day(6-8hrs) to the non pro mechanic.
The inside of the trans looks intimidating to mess with, and you have to do so much more stuff just to get to the diff.

If you have a helms and a set of metric tools, it's not all that hard, just time consuming. the two biggest pains in the *** are getting the snap ring to seat and putting the trans back on the engine (lining up the splines on the countershaft? (forgot what it's called - been a while) and getting all the pins to line up. just make sure you have a good torque wrench and a vise to hold the old diff while you remove the final drive. i've done this twice - the internals look a little intimidating, but really, it's pretty easy.
make sure you get the right bearings for your differential; if you don't you'll have to order shims to get the correct bearing to trans housing clearance.
if you have the helms and a friend to help, it'll be smooth sailing.
good luck

I know that is a bitch trying to get the spline to line up. We have most tools (all metric) and my brother is a mechanic. Is it a hard task to complete just to swap one differential from one tranny to another. I noticed the transmission with the good diff. is a long geared S1. We are goinig to swap the S1 differetial into a YS1.
