Default Thinking of building a ECHC H4 car

Here goes. I have a 91 Si that is set up for SCCA's STS solo2 class, my friends are getting into doing some HPDE's, and local Axtox/track guys, Keith Edwards, and Beno Rubin are just pushing my buttons to go road racing.

With all of that being said, I am working on a 18-24 month plan on having a car built and comp licence.

Which car for H4 is the question. My 91 Si, or a coupe, or I was even thinking of picking up a hatch that someone has swapped like a b16 into to my HPDE stuff with then sell that motor and build up a d16z6.

Any ideas of what it would take to make my car competative, or any of the others I mentioned would be great....

Also, any input as to which is a more ballanced starting point? Is one just a better car to start off with???

Thanx for the advice
Michael

Save yourself the hassle and buy a used race car.

I will most likely be selling my ITA/H4 CRX. You can follow my signature to see pics of the car.

My only problem is that I'm looking for a house right now, and will be some what low on cash for the next 12 months untill my fiancee graduates and starts working full time. Thats why this has to be a 18-24 month plan.

a few hundred here and a few hundred there wont be bad but, I just cant drop 10k on a race car all at once.

Yup. ITA/H4 cars are all over the place. A front runner car can be had for around $10k

I know and its killing me but thats not an option right now so back to the main idea.

Is there one car that is better suited, more ballanced, etc.... for the H4 class?

I know the EF's, DA Integra, EG's are all over the place and the hatch is the car that I personaly have seen the most of (I may be wrong) So is one better than another?

Thanx again

So open a dedicated savings account and put a "few hundred here and a few hundred there." Take the time you would spend building a car and work some overtime or something and sock away the extra green. In two years, write a check for one of any number of good ITA cars that will be avialble and you're golden.

I guarantee that someone on the east coast is building an EX Coupe, '94 Si hatch, or 2nd-gen Integra RS right this very second, who will run out of dough in two years. Take advantage of THEM getting dinked on the depreciation and slave labor...

[saleman on] BY MY CSP CAR!!!! [salesman off] Sorry, habit.

I think your current STS car would make a fine HPDE car. Spend the money on the driver first. Then see what you would need. Your current car would not take a lot of money to convert to an H4 car (for those who don't know, his STS car is a well setup and competitive car. the driver ain't too bad either).

I'm not sure if its the car to have but its probably pretty capable. If you've got a bunch of money into the civic already I'd just keep it. For what its worth at Road Atlanta I was running between 52 and 53's on my azenis in my STS car. That was my first time at the track too. My car also has only around 5k into it including the price of the car(2600).

I might even convert my car to road racing eventually. Its a lot more fun than auto-x. Its just the money and being competitive that I'm still auto-xing right now.

The DA Integra is a great car for H4, and is the car to have in ITA as well, so it is a good choice all around, and depending where you live you can run a number of races a year if you wanted and be competitive in both series. It costs a lot to build one up, but I think its gonna be expensive no matter what car you are building. If you are spreading it out though over several months, it may be easier in your case then buying a car, plus you know the quality of the car because you did the work. Good luck!

Thanx guys

I was talking to my dad tonight and I think I am going to get a 2nd engine have it built to STS specs to swap out the beater in the car now. And also get a set of Team Dynamics Pro Racing 1's (the new 14x7) and wrap them with some cheep Azenis, and just run the hell out of the car while doing HPDE's.

I figure the origional engine in the car can the later be built to HC specs, and the wheels can either be wrapped with Hoosiers, or Kumho's. Add all the safty stuff and there we go.

Thanx for the input!!!!
