gauge cluster tach and vafc tach are way off, whats the deal?
i recently installed a vafc in my 91 civ DX with a y8, and the tach has way different readings than what my gauge cluster is telling me. at idle they are about even but once you get to 3K they start to differ and by the time im hitting vtec (its set at 4900) my gauge cluster says about 5500 when my vafc is reading 4900. which one is correct?
the stock tachs in the clusters are not very accurate, they are 15 years old if you think about it. I would say go with the vaf-c readings because of its new advanced technology compared to the stock unit. Hope that helps you out
thats what i thought, but this tach is seriously WAY off and it didnt use to be like that, im thinking something isnt giving one or the other a good signal.
when i check what speed i should be going according to the rpm calculator thingy, it used to be dead on. with my si tranny at 60 in 5th im doing 3K and thats what my tach said....does the starter have anything to do with the tach signal?

No it doesnt.
You say the tach readings are close at idle, maybe its correct up till ~3k just a guess I knw an autometer reads different then factory.
