Default put itb's on today now i got a question

im using the cbr954rr itb's and it cranked up no prob so i went for the first drive..... basically it runs hella rich.... smokes black through all rpms and throttle positions, which i know is a tuning issue but the question i have is... as long as you are giving it about over 15% throttle is runs smooth but when you get up to speed and cruise say at about 5-10% throttle it sputters and shakes.... sounds like i got a 2-step going down the street.... so can this be just tuned out? or is it another problem that i should look for?

btw my vafc is reading .4v closed and 4.4v open so i know the tps is right

thanks for any help

uberdata map scalar will be your friend.

Hook a vac gauge up to your ITB's, you need to tune for a different range of vacuum as you will see.

In general ITB's will produce less vacuum. Think about it. Since the ecu you are running now was geared for a plenum, the columns with elss vacuum added more fuel appropriately. Now youre running the ITB's,which are operating on different vac columns and adding more fuel that what you need now.

If you already have a chipped p28, get some more chips, a burner, a wideband, and crack open Uberdata and mess with the map scalar.

Do you understand what is happening with vacuum and the fuel maps which are effected? Some people have gotten by by using the vafc to lean the f*ck out the fuel maps, but the proper way would be to scale your maps for the new vacuum range your car is working in.

ok well it turns out that the reason for the sputtering and such was it was just running so rich that it was flooding it out at partial throttle i leaned it out alot on my vafc and it smoothed out GREATLY..... it runs like its supposed to now..... im gonna borrow a wideband and do some tuning tonite and get it right so i should be driving it to destin with them on

and evan, yea its destin florida and we can meet up sometime if you want ill be there the 25th-30th

thanks for the help guys

yea i got it running fine now i figured out that it was just too rich on the partial throttle so its all good now

for the booster i just put a barbed fitting in one of the itb injector holes with jb weld and its just hooked on like that

Can you put on filters once you have ITB's? I see a lot of pics of ITB's without filter, then wouldn't the intake air be really dirty and damage the engine in long term use? Nice ITB's btw.

how dirty is the air right next to the firewall? I think you're pretty safe without a filter

FYI, there are several companies that make filters for ITB's.

Also, if you want to know more about Uberdata go here:

Could you tell me how much you scrolled back the fuel with your AFC?, I'm trying to write an Uberdata Bin with the same idea involved.

got my itb on last week. it runs very rich at part throttle because there's not a lot of vacum at part throttle. i hook up a wideband i tunned it yesterday. my fuel pressure is at ~42psi with vacum line on. the vafc is set at around -45 from 1000-5000rpm and -40 from 5000-8500rpm on the Nar throttle. for Wide throttle it's -15 from 1000-5000rpm and -8 from 5000-8500rpm. the engine is running very smooth. the a/f ratio is around 13.2-13.7 at WOT till it hit 8000rpm then it drops to 12.9 till 9000rmp. i don't understand why it's still running rich at WOT because the factory FPR was set at 55psi with vac and 61 without vac. i'm using the stock type r injectors. also, ecu is a chipped p28, not sure what program, either mugen or spoon. i also have my IAC hooked up to the vacum log, so the car idles fine on cold starts, around 1200 rpm until it warms up then drops down to 850rpm. the only problem with the fuel right now is that when i smash the throttle wide open from closed during cruising speed the engine run lean for about half a second around 16:1 a/f then drops down to ~13.5, i think it's from the suden rush of air before the injectors could react from lost of vacum.
