Default Need help with oem tach

i am using a vx cluster in my eg6 ... but the cluster seem to be off by damn near 2000 rpm. Its seems to be on point tell vtec kicks in then its starts lagging , i guess it cant keep up with the motor. When i dynoed my car the needle on the tach would read about 7200 rpm and the dyno shows 9300 rpm. Is it time for a new cluster? I really dont want to use an aftermarket monster tach i think they look cheesy

I have noticed that 92-95 Civic Tach meter are kinda off.
For example. When in fifth gear going 120 KMH the RPM should be at 4000.
However I have seen it as low as 3000 and have see it as high as 4500 rpm.
While holding a constant 120 KMH the RPM will land anywhere in between.
If I slow down or change gears and go back to 120 KMH the RPM will be a few hundred off from 1 min ago.

So go figure.
Thanks
ANdy
