Default B16 Power Loss

I did a search and didnt find anything. At what rpm does the b16 lose power? My buddy and I have the same motor because I rev my to 8200 because my motor is completely stock except I have intake and it came hondata chipped while my buddy revs his to 9000 and has i/h/e and a mugen chip. Are there any gains from reving it so high or a waste of gas.

If you are on stock valve springs, dont rev past 8,200.

it doesnt matter which ecu you have. the stock engine can (should) only go to 8200 rpm. the power drops of at 7600 rpm so reving any higher than the redline is pointless. i wouldnt call it a waste of gas, id call it wasting an engine.

Ya, get some bigger cams, more compression, valve springs, and rev that thing high.

On the dyno, my car peaked at about 8200~8300 rpm using CTR cams, valvesprings, Ti retainers, and a chipped ecu. After that rpm, the powerband flattened out and declined. If you can get to a dyno, that would help you determine where your powerband peaks and starts to drop-off.

Here is a dyno sheet from my first gen b16. It is pretty typical of what you are going to see with minor boltons.....until you get into cams and the supporting mods to shift the curve to the right then there is no need to rev beyond 8000 or so. This one peaked at 7600 and had I/H/E, SFC, fpr, GSR TB, and chipped ecu (vtec @ 4400 and rev limit @ 9500 )

Obviously I moved the vtec crossover to a more suitable spot and I don't rev it beyond 8-8.2k as there's no point.

with stock valve train and cams all your friend is doing is hurting his motor.

your better off revving it up to 8,200 like people had said it doesn't make much power past that peak...myself i've got a b16a and i don't rev my motor past 8,200 anything past that is just more stress/ wear n tear that you don't need.

If that is directed towards me...... WE socketed it and chipped it to eliminate the need to run a second o2 and the knock sensor, also bumped the rev limit and whatnot in anticipation of me adding cams and the like.
