door ajar light comes on when brakes pressed
When I hit the brakes anything but lightly, my door ajar light and chime goes off. Any idea what is causing this? I can't help but think inertia is closing a switch somewhere because if I come to a slow easy stop, it does not happen. Any help would be appreciated.
Wow, thats fucked up. Are you sure nothings getting caught in the door jamb when you're closing the door or something? Because that is really weird.
here just take out the guage cluster and simply disconnect the door ajar light.........problem fixed......i dont really think that that light is of much use anyways
Does it only happen when you are slowing to a stop? Or can you reproduce it by slamming on the brake while not moving? If the latter, you've probably got a short somewhere, and I wouldn't know where to start with that.
If it only happens while coming to a stop, I'd start by checking/replacing the switch to whichever door it thinks is opening.

Similar thing happened to me on my Eclipse, however that was after my friend backed into me and bent up the door. Check the switch around the door and make sure everything is coshure (sp?). You might also try duct taping a quarter or something to the door to press the switch in further. Who knows, could be something in the latching mechanism I suppose.
Definitely sounds like a short to me. Have you made any recent mods to any lighting or to the gauge cluster? Have you recently been in any form of accident or anything? Struck by lightning (LOL, kidding)?

Yeah, I suppose you're right, Jac. Most people would know when their door is ajar without a useless warning light. If you wanted to be **** about it, you could always bring your car to a dealer or to a shop to have it checked out...it could even be as simple as a gimped fuse or something.
LOL and possibly get charged an arm and a leg. Sorry I have bad karma with dealerships. Though I have some buddies that are pretty good with stuff like that. Maybe you could take it to a local shop that works on cars if it is that much of an issue.
