question about stolen leather seats and insurance
i posted this in the general forum, but figured i might get more responses in the teg forum. i have a 96 Integra SE and recently my car was broken in to and they stole the front and rear leather seats, the trunk carpet, radio, messed up the ignition, stole my ecu, and some other small stuff. my question is if the insurance company will pay to replace my seats with oem leather seats. they said the appraiser came up with a total of 3000 damage. i always thought that the seats were really expensive, and they took my ecu too, i dunno how much that costs. but with 3000 worth of damage, my friend said it sounds a little low. does this sound right to you guys? do u think they might be replacing my seats with cloth or with junkyard stuff? how do i bring this up to my insurance company? should i ask to get it appraised from acura or something? i just don't wanna get shafted with some non-oem stuff or used junk. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Insurance companies will often use used parts to replace in your car. It will all depend on the year your car is made. To them, since your car is a 96, it's assumed that your seats were not perfect or close to new. So issuing a used set will be considered comparable to your original set. You may ask to get your car appraised by a body shop of your choice. That is your right. Take it to a shop you know or trust and have them run it down. Be careful though. If you get too greedy, they might go off and salvage your car. If it's already salvaged, have a ball and good luck.
Well in my case I have a 00 Si with Katzkin leather seats. When my car was stolen in March of 03 they also took the front seats and the back seats along with the middle console ( and more). The insurance company did replace the seats and had katzkin do the leather. I know the leather alone was about $1,000-$1,500.
go to the dealership and get a part list quoate for all the stolen parts. you are paying insurance premiums for a reason. to have everything replaced or put back together like new.
I don' t pay incurance companies for used honda parts, and if they have a problem with the real numbers then they are lowballing you and using a cheap repair shop.

last time I got my car broken into, they replaced me with a whole USED dash, IDIOT didnt change my vin number on the window so im rolling with a salvaged vin number and the actual vin number inside my firewall and door. SUCKS. ******* say they aint gonna replaced cuase its too much hassle(think they threw that **** away)....almost got into a fight with the mgr. and his brother that work on my car....but the receptionist call the cop but thats a whole new story.....anyways...I just got some **** replaced with poor quality installation with the whole dash. I had to adjust some **** myself to fit correctly and the door will close properly. Insurance told me that they were only gonna give me used stuff cause my car was old.....**** ERIE INSURANCE
and the local body shop here in charlotte......im with State Farm now...paying $70/month with them for 100/250 deductible vs. ERIE @ 160/month...500/500
