Default OBD1 ECU's

I was looking at an OBD1 ECU out of a friends car the other day and I have a few questions. Do all OBD1 ECU's have a removable chip (ie. the one I looked at had a chip slot so you could easily change your ecu chip)? Anybody here running OBD1 ECU's in their ITR? Where can I get an OBD2 to OBD1 wiring harness?

Thanks.

Skunk2 makes a obd2-obd1 harness, a bit pricey i think there around 250.00

I make OBD2 to OBD1 ECU conversion harnesses also.

I don't want to mention prices on this board but I am cheaper than Skunk2 and I gaurantee my work.

Email me at kenji211@gte.net if you have any questions.

I have a OBD1 ECU in my car. I'm using a P28 ECU with a custom chipping setup, not Hondata. No, OBD1 ECU's do not have removable chips. That socket you saw was put in by the shop who chipped the ECU. When you get a stock p28, p72, etc... ECU you go to the shop who will chip it and they first remove the stock chip or chips that will be replaced with the new ones. They then will install a socket to put the new chip on. Socketing is normally not standard for some shops. Most times they will just install the new chip into the ECU like how the stock one was attached. However you can normally pay an extra charge and they will put a socket in, so that you can swap chips easily.
As for a harness, Skunk has one and so does Kenji. Me personally, I'm using Kenji's and it works great!

Are there any other sources for these harnesses? $250 seems like a lot for what sounds like a $50 piece of hardware. Perhaps I am wrong, but I don't think that these harnesses contain any electronics - they are simply pin rerouters. (Though, I guess they may be low volume items that involve a lot of labour.)

I agree, that is alot for just a harness.
