Default Question about bad rings...

when u have bad rings, will a compression test tell u? or do u have to do a leak down test? also, say u had a motor with bad rings, is it possible to have all 4 cylinders with bad rings?

i mean, i tested my lsvtec and got really low numbers... especially since its supposed to have 11.6:1 compression or so..... all 4 cylinders were extremely low, but with +/- 5!!!!!!!

WTF....

is my tester bad? or did it go all the way around once (only goes to 250) and then some?

how could i have burned all the rings so damn evenly?!

Here's a good way to test your rings. Do a first test, write your numbers down. With an oil can, put some oil in the spark plug holes, enough to just coat the rings. If the compression goes up quite a bit, you have blow-by, which means you need new rings.

It should be done at WOT. But incidentally, my numbers didn't change either way I did it. Do it again at WOT.
