SOHC VTEC cam lobe and follower wear pic
My D16Y8 has a worn out VTEC cam lobe and a follower. The cam has worn down to the softer metal core and also wore a 1mm deep groove on the follower. And it only occurred on the last vtec lobe closest to the distributor (passenger side).
Since my front driver side wheel bearing has gone bad after 85K miles of street and hard track usage. I think the cam might have gone dry because of the long right hand turn sweepers. What's your opinion on this? Has anyone has this problem before??? I always top off my oil after every track session. Thanks

whew loox like u got sum kinda of wear there....sorry never had trouble wit my cams like that. *tsk tsk* sorry for ya pal. and the thing that sux is that its the only cam u have...bwahahhaha...ahem sorry. why don't u just come to the dohcside...
If only one cam and rocker-follower is severly worn out, you should check the spring rates on all your intake vavles. It might be an out of spec/overly stiff vavle spring on that particular one.
btw.. your assumption that long duration right-hand sweeper might be causing the problem is probably right as the majority of tracks are ran clock-wise. Also, you may want to examine the rest of the cams and followers to check if theres a pattern in wear. ie, since most of the oil is being pushed on the left side, the left cams should be in perfect condition and the two mid cams should have a slight wear. Especially, the mid cam right next to the one indicated on the picture.
