Default engine start switch.

I searched on how to install a engine start button (Like on the S2k's) but i dont really like the idea of having a big red button that says start on it. So ive decide im guna use a switch so that i just push up on the switch and it starts. how would i wire this up??? the same as a button?

im pretty sure that whatever switch you use, it has to be a momentary switch.
im not sure on the wiring.

I would definatly recommend a momentary switch. This is a spring loaded switch that always springs back to the off position when you take you thumb off of it.

As for the wireing, its quite easy. Use some heavy wire (10 gauge) . Disconnect your battery before doing this. In the engine bay, you will see a wire going from the underhood fuse box to the starter solenoid Its about a 10 gauge wire with a rubber boot on the end that goes to the starter solenoid. It connnects with a female blade connector. Remove this wire, your going to make a new one.

Using your fresh 10 gauge wire. Connect one end to the positive terminal of your battery and run the wire to your momentary switch. Run a second wire from the switch to the starter solenoid. Done.

i was definatly gunna use a momentary switch. and this system you described seems like you wouldnt even need the key in the ignition anymore. Its a daily driver so i dont want it to just flip a switch and go i still want the keys to be required. thanx for the replys though

i found this description archived

"Your starter wire is a Black with white stripe and, ignition is black with yellow stripe. These wires can be found coming out of the back of your key cylinder. Tap power off of the ignition circuit. Don't cut it just tie in with it. Then for the out put of the switch, cut the black wire and the part running away from the cylinder goes to your starter. Wire up tour output to it. Now your car will only start with the button. Edit: when the ignition is on. This is the way it should be." (giving credit to CRXBart for writing it.)

but this seems more like what i am gunna be doing im just wondering if its gunna work the same with a switch as with a start button
