EFI Spreadsheet for planned future mod... making up numbers...
So I'm working on a spreadsheet to figure out my fuel ignition management for this frankencivic. D16Y8, T3/T4 running 8 lbs boost, TECII engine management - using a 8cylinder unit...don't ask- it was free. Engine internals stock except for a copper 'turbo' head gasket to lower the compression a little. Current total vehicle project budget is now pushing the $3k mark- expensive clutch and dern fancy paint job are going to keep me out of the Grassroots Motorsports challenge unless I sell off the rims or something.
OK - here's my assumptions I'm pretty much making up to make my spreadsheet work.
210 bhp?
0.6 BSFC?
HP peak @ 6000 RPM?
injector close time 1ms...
OK - tricky part here where I'm making up my own formulas... Injector on time for calculating duty cycle... the engine management book I have calculates the max injector on time as the amount of time from TDC to TDC. It also assumes that the injectors are fired at every TDC - both intake and power stroke? Since I'm using this 8-cylinder unit, I'm only firing the injector on the intake stroke. Therefore, I find the max injector on time at 6000 RPM to be 20ms (time for all 4 cycles) - (60000ms/min)/[(6000rev/min)/(2 rev per CYCLE)] not 10 ms, as would be calculated by the TDC-TDC approach. that gives me a duty cycle of (20ms-1ms)/20ms = 95%. I also read somewhere that duty cycles over 80% are bad.
Soooo using an 80% duty cycle, injectors should be [(210bhp)*(0.6BSFC) / 4 injectors]/(80% duty cycle) = 39.4lb/hr or 413cc/min reasonable?
I guess I'd just use some 400cc/min injectors and crank up the fuel pressure a little? What's the rating on the stock injectors - anyone know? What's the pressure on the stock injectors (I guess I could stick a gauge on it...)?
One other thing - MAP sensor - I assume the stock one isn't going to put up with 8lbs of boost in the manifold, and the fuel injection computer wants to see a 2 Bar GM P/N 16009886... is there a bolt on Honda part that will to the job... or given my cheapass ways, should I just go to the u-pull-it junkyard and start looking for a 16009886- I'm sure it's gotta be on something junkable?
